Someone Forgot to Shut Off the Hydrant...


This morning I'm fortunate enough to wrap up my week by sharing with all of you the last installment of answers provided by some pretty insightful folks. I'll keep the entry paragraph short, as the rest of this post is quite long (because really, who wants to get up and read Jean's Boots on a Saturday?!).

Thank you, again, for taking the time to sit with me three days this week as I've shared this wealth of knowledge with you. 

And many, many thanks for the folks who took the time to answer what turned out to be a quite powerful question:

In this life, what is something you truly know?


I know that if you don't want your mom or the wrong person to read it don't write it down. And in this day in age, don't type it if you don't want the whole world to read it.
I know that if I am wearing white, I will always spill something on myself.
I know that you should always have a seatbelt on, in case you have a car wreck. 
I know that true friends are few and far between. 
I know that nothing smells better in the summertime than fresh cut alfalfa, and I still think it needs to be made into a men's cologne.   
I know Taylor Swift is overplayed and overrated.  Long live Reba!
I know its easier to potty train a puppy than a 2 year old.
I know if you go fishing with grandpa and get skunked, is still a better day than most.
I know hard lessons learned from the farm are some of my fondest memories of my childhood.
I know that no matter how old you get, there will always be a time when you just want your Mommy. 
I know laughter can cure almost anything. 
I know to always check your pockets when you take off your jeans.  
I know that one of the hardest parts of growing up is losing your grandparents and watching your parents age right before your eyes.
I know the harder life gets, the more I trust in God's plan for me. 
I know true friends are the ones who, no matter how much time has passed, you can always pick up with wherever you left off. 
I know that nothing takes the edge off at the end of the day like a cold beer or a glass of wine. 
I know that there's no better way to recharge one's life batteries than to spend some time in the heartland.
I know nothing is as comforting or as loving as my momma hugging me before I go.
I know that there's no greater country on earth than that in which we live.
I know to always take the middle seat, no questions asked. The idiot who fights for the window has to open and close all the gates. 
I know that after being involved in it for 10 years, I'll still forever be 4-H'er.
I know that my house must be built on the foundation of Christ.
I know that no matter how many times I tell my parents thanks, it still doesn't begin to show my appreciation for everything they've done for me.
I know whatever happens in the show barn, stays in the show barn.

I know In know very person has unique and amazing qualities; look for them and appreciate them, even when they're hard to find.
I know that I have no problem shoveling manure, AI'ing a cow or pulling a calf, but when it comes to touching the cart at Wal-Mart, I'm sanitizing that puppy with two wipes.
I know that as much as I can't live without my cell phone, sometimes I wish they never existed. 
I know the older my kids get, the smarter my parents get.
I know that there is never enough juice in a Capri Sun. 
I know my hair will hate me and rebel against me if I do not have a ponytail holder in reach 24-7. 
I know "Land is the only thing worth workin' for, worth fightin' for, worth dyin' for, because it's the only thing that lasts." -Gerald O'Hara from Gone With the Wind.
I know that no matter where you go in life, home is where your Mom is.
I know that owning a VHS player is totally worth it! When's the last time you saw a VHS movie for more than $.99?
I know that what will be, will be.
I know that when walking outside in the winter, my knees will be numb and will finally feel good but my nostril hairs will freeze and my eyes will water.
I know that, wearing a bright color on a gloomy day will brighten things up for yourself and for others.
I know that walking barefoot in the grass will immediately take me back to my childhood.
I know that men and women live on different planets mentally but that's just part of it.
I know that I worry that I’ll never find a good reason to settle down. 
I know that after Thanksgiving lunch at grandma's, I will fall asleep in my favorite chair and get left behind...then wake up and eat more and then do it again.
I know that sitting on a front porch and around a campfire are two of the best places in the world and are the stuff life is made of.
I know that my friends and family are my insides and really do make my life come full circle.
I know that being in love isn't always easy but there's nothing better than being in love with your best friend.
I know that chocolate and a glass of wine make the worst days a little better.
I know that lightening bugs on a summer night make me feel like a kid again.
I know that all food tastes better with more butter.
I know that husbands still look good in tight fitting Wranglers even after they turn 30.
I know that no matter how early you set your alarm - the dog will always be up 5 minutes before it goes off.
I know our agriculture slang may not always be understood outside our industry. i.e. Honey Wagon

I know that time can't heal all hurts, but love can. 
I know when the sun sets off the coast of Maui, time stands still for just a moment.
I know that the world is a beautiful place with no wrongs, if we look through the innocent eyes of babes.
I know that I’ve listened to, and understood, the lyrics to Tracy Lawrence’s You Find Out Who Your Friends Are - and I have some amazing friends.
I know that almost daily I thank God for unanswered prayers. Is that bad?
I know my Dad is still the greatest man I've ever known.
I know that as good as my bread pudding is, it'll never beat Grandpa's.
I know I'm only really half as talented as my parents think I am.
I know that no matter how many dogs I have, none of them will ever beat the first one.
I know the only way to bring on rain is to either mow hay or wash my car. 
I know that no matter how bad things get, things will always be better back home on the farm.
I know that no matter how much it hurts, it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.
I know there is no such thing as too much fun.
I know with certainty that I'm getting older every day, and that youth is largely wasted on the young.
I know that while youth may be wasted on the young, I know it is a good thing I didn't know then everything I know now.
  
I know internet radio is a real test of patience. How many times do I need to tell Jango that I hate Shania Twain?
I know when the sun rises over the Swiss Alps on a cool, crisp morning, even God himself stops to watch.
I know Jesus forgives, but Grandmas never forget.
I know in my heart that only the good die young.
I know that I one day I’ll be glad I saved 47 t-shirts from high school and college. Right?
I know that it’s quite possible to fall in love with your exact opposite.
I know that mail and text are nice, but they sure don’t compare to a phone call or a hand written letter.
I know that fat is ugly but white fat is worse.
I know to do things soon, now, today, ... that's what plastic is
for; You never know what tomorrow, next week, or next year will bring. 
I know that the man I miss the most in my life is the Granddad that I fear didn’t know how much I loved, admired and respected him.
I know that no matter how much I try to catch up, there will always be a list of things to do tomorrow.
I know that with or without daylight savings time, there will never be enough hours in the day.
I know that the most important conversations happen on the back of a tailgate in the middle of a cow pasture.
 I know that with out farmers we’d have no food.
I know that three days in Vegas is PLENTY. 
I know that a  hair permanent is temporary and a temporary tax increase is permanent.
I know that cellulite never goes away.
I know that the smarter I think I get the more I realize I have to learn.

I know that no matter how many different countries I fall in love with,  Australia will always feel like home. 
I know that sitting on a beach when a storm is coming makes me feel alive. 

I know I will always want what I cant have. 
I know that being happy is not a feeling but rather an attitude.
I know that Chipotle is the best restaurant to ever grace this earth.
I know that sometimes your heroes really do turn out to be assholes. 
I know that certified Angus steak will never taste the same as meat you buy from the store.
I know that farming is the hardest profession one could ever get into- and it takes the most commitment of them all.
I know that you are never too old for popsicles. 
I know that when you have babies, time moves so much quicker.
I know that no matter how tough the day, my dog is always happy to see me when I get home. I hope I am half the person she thinks I am.
I know I have it so much better than my folks did, because they made the hard decisions.
I know good health is the most important asset in the world
I know never to rent an apartment that's not on the first floor....(dad's request!).

I know that if you have hay in the back of your truck and it starts raining.....You better get it to the barn ASAP.
I know that no matter how well it was intended,  "You look comfy" is never a compliment. 

I know not to ignore that little voice in the back of my head telling me to fix that gate before the cows get out. (This applies to all aspects of life).
I know if it’s too loud, you’re too old. 
I know being a grandma is the very best thing in life.
I know that the greatest gift I have ever been given is my son.
I know that money doesn't buy happiness or love.
I know that it’s OK to cry everyday.
I know that when I am having a bad day I can call my mom and she will always cheer me up.
I know that if you don't like to weather in Indiana, just wait a day. It will change.

I know that there is nothing better than country living.

I know that there is not a more gratifying experience in this world than to hold my 20-month old granddaughter on the glider on our back porch and see her look up at me and smile as she says “bird”, “tree” and “Aggie”.
I know that you are only as old as you feel, and some days, I feel really OLD.
I know that God is 1st: NOTHING is too big (cause there's a lotta " big" stuff in this life) for Him and we can do ALL things with His help.
I know that Family is 2nd: to laugh and cry with, to lift one another up when one falls down, to celebrate life’s joys! And, family is not just blood relation.
I know that my Job/community is 3rd: what a pleasure to share the love and special gifts God gave you to enrich and shape others lives.

I know it’s important to learn the name of the janitor or cleaning person who cleans up after you at work.  Treat them the same as you would your boss.
I know that it matters not how old I am, when I hear George Strait’s “Baby Blue” I think of Momma driving me into kindergarten. Our favorite. 
I know that a glimpse of the Colorado Mountains on a rough day can make the day much better.
I know that there's nothing better than sitting around the table for dinner with everyone home.
I know that I worry too much. 
I know that I will never be a size 6 again; it’s probably alright to toss those 8th grade jeans.
I know that you can't put a price tag on your life's true calling.
I know a good pair of jeans are worth every penny you pay for them.
I know that no matter where I live or what i do, I will still have a passion a for agriculture.
I know that the middle cinnamon roll is always the best....don't let anyone ever tell you differently.
I know that your house is not clean unless there is a faint smell of bleach right after cleaning.
I know a little boy can use anything as a weapon.
I know that I don't share an ounce of DNA with the majority of my "family".
I know stepping on something wet when wearing socks is always disappointing.
I know that no matter which way you try to put a 2 prone plug into an outlet, the first time will always be the wrong way
I know that my house must be built on the foundation of Christ.
I know to never breast feed a puppy. 

I know few things are more beautiful in this world than a night sky on fire over a burning Kansas prairie.

I know that the 5th of July fireworks are damn near as good as the 4th. 

I know that more times that not, Alan Jackson music makes my ears burn. 

I know that the single worst decision I’ve made as a home owner is buying red bath towels.

I know that if you’re still reading this - I truly appreciate you.
